Loving Mike Love

You know, way too many people like to villainize Mike Love by calling him the bad guy of the group, a suppressor of Brian Wilson's creativity and sometimes far worse... but I have to admit I have always had a soft spot for him. I want everyone to watch this video and rethink your stance about Mike Love. He is a a very human guy who loves his family and his band.

Touching yes, but I can NEVER forgive him for all he's done to control and disrupt Brian's creativity. We should never have had to wait 40+ years to hear Smile. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! For every "touching" moment, there's dozens of incidents of abuse, negative comments, and more. As Danny Hutton said; Mike Love should thank God every day for Brian Wilson, who made him a wealthy man, and gave him a job no one else ever would: as a lead singer!

Again, Mike Love never CONTROLLED Brian's creativity...he simply gave his feedback. Brian Wilson is a big guy and he should realize that not everyone is always going to love everything you do. That's life. Mike Love likes some stuff and he dislikes some stuff. Heck, I write songs and my girlfriend doesn't like every song I've ever written. She certainly doesn't control and disrupt my creativity by telling me what she thinks of my new songs. If you think Mike Love is the reason SMiLE never happened in 1967, you are very wrong.

I heartily agree with Warnakey. People want to find blame in everything, and especially related to the Beach Boys. Their favorite scapegoat is Mike Love. I love every one of the Beach Boys for their contribution to the band I love. I don;t have to like every little thing they have done to appreciate them and their talents as individuals and as a group. Danny Hutton can have his opinion. So can Mel Gibson. Doesn't mean it is a great one.
